MIL-PRF-85582 Primer Coatings: Epoxy, Waterborne


MIL-PRF-85582 Epoxy Primer is a two-component chemically cured waterborne primer that forms a film that is resistant to chemicals, solvents, moisture, and abrasion. This product has excellent adhesion to most substrates and is recommended for use as a primer under aliphatic polyurethane topcoats in aerospace applications.

Product Description

This MIL-PRF-85582 specification covers the requirements for corrosion inhibiting, chemical and solvent resistant, waterborne, epoxy primers for metal that have a maximum volatile organic compound (VOC) content of 340 grams per liter (g/L) (2.8 pounds per  gallon [lb/gal]) as supplied by the manufacturer. This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense.



The primer coating shall consist of two components, as follows:

Component A – a base component of epoxy resin solution
Component B – a curing agent
