This specification covers one grade and two classes of acrylic-nitrocellulose lacquer:
Class. The classes of coatings are as follows:
Class 1 – For use where Air Pollution Regulations do not apply
Class 2 – For use where Air Pollution Regulations are in force

SURFACE PREPARATION
Surface must be clean, dry and free of all contamination before application of lacquer. Prime per specification requirements.
STEEL: Surface must be clean and free of all oil, grease and foreign material. Badly rusted or pitted steel should be cleaned by commercial sandblasting and primed the same day.
APPLICATION & REDUCTION
MIL-L-19538C should only be applied by spray application due to its fast dry properties. Thin MIL-L-19538C approximately 10-15% by volume with MIL-T-81772B TY.III Thinner or enough to achieve proper atomization through spray equipment. Spray one tack coat followed by one full wet coat being sure to keep a “wet edge” for maximum matte finish.
